Perry Mandera is a transportation industry living legend who founded Custom Cares Charities. Immediately after graduating from high school in 1975, Perry joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. A short time later, he was honorably discharged. After working for several different transportation companies, he started his own in 1980 when he ran until selling it in 1985. The year prior, in 1984, he got involved in politics. During this year he began serving as the Republican Ward Committeeman for the 26th Ward in Chicago. He would hold this position until 1988.
He first started what has remained his most successful company, The Custom Companies, Inc., in 1986. Headquartered in Northlake, Il, The Custom Companies is a full-service transportation provider. This means its services includes everything needed for Truckload and LTL services, Domestic and International Air Freight Forwarding services, Local Cartage and Dedicated Contract Cartage, and many other miscellaneous Logistic Products and Services. For his amazing leadership, in 2000 he was named on the Illinois Transportation Association’s list of “Top 100 American Transportation Executives of the Millenium.”
Perry Mandera is also a very generous philanthropist. Over these past several decades he has given both of his time and finances to a number of deserving charities. Most of this has gone toward charities centered on children, youth, and veterans. However, he has aided many other groups, including leading his company to provide relief for those affected by the Washington, Illinois tornado in 2013 and those in Louisiana affected by Hurricane Katrina. His contributions have also included providing transportation and giving out thousands of winter coats to needy children.
To help The Custom Campany with this charitable efforts, Mandera led it to found Custom Cares Charities. Since its founding, Custom Cares has sponsored more than 100 youth sports teams and provided financial educational support to countless needy adults and children. Youth sports is an especially important thing to Mandera. He has coached many basketball, football, and baseball teams throughout the years. He is also heavily into coaching adult boxers, having even coached Olympian heavyweight Donnell “Doc” Nickelson (Phillypurge).
